Question : Why is it not possible to fill lexmark inkjet printer cartridges without causing the printer to malfunction.?
The ink levels shown do not reflect the correct values following a refill. Also there are lines in the print where there were none before.

I've had that happen (the lines). I had to run several sheets through before it would work. It's a pain.

It is possible and it works!I overcame this problem to a satisfactory result.Yes, the ink levels shown do not reflect the correct values. However, I refilled successfully and printing is as good as new since early August. Yes, it was tricky, but I learned from it and I now have the experience to do it again. I refilled color and black cartridges.I wrote about my experience and blogged it in an AOL Journal and at bloglines.com.Here it is ------------------ August 4(?), 2006 My recent experience (successful) refilling the Lexmark Z611 (cheap) color printer.---------------------------------------Yes, we know that many printers are cheaper than buying the new cartridges they require. Thus, we have nearly reached the age of disposable printers.printer ink cartridges. Having failed at my first attempt to refill the cartridges for the Lexmark Z611 (a $24.00 printer), I nearly pitched it, thinking I would just buy another printer. Instead, I waited till next day. Determined to try again, I learned 2 (secret?) tips, which follow. I had apparently overfilled the black (17) cartridge. The sw "Solution Center" reported that the cartridge was still LOW! SO, . . . .1) I then reported the cartridge as new instead of old. (This made all the difference in the world.).2) I had to run "clean horizontal streaks - forcing ink thru nozzles."This didn't help much after even several attempts. Upon checking the included sw manual, I cleaned the nozzles and contacts as directed with a soft wet cloth. It still didn't help. So, I just put rubbling alcohol on the cloth and wiped again and again, firmly but carefully. I still had to run "clean horizontal streaks" 2 more times. After that, lo & behold! It worked! It prints fine now, refilled, like a new cartridge! Yes, I know it's a cheap, popular printer. But I just wasn't in the mood to go to Wal-Mart for another cheap new printer (and/or new cartridge) which costs the same anyway!). This little success just "made my day" as they say. I offer this little experience to any one else who has too quickly given up hope. CybratThis experience can also be read at Bloglines.com/public/cybrat
